Child Development Program (CDP)
Child development program (CDP) is being implemented with the assistance Save the Children Sweden Denmark (SCSD) Phase by phase. It has been shifted its focus based on the lessons learnt and experiences from pervious phases covering major 4 principal elements( Protection, participation, survival and development) of UNCRC. Now the 3rd phase of the project is going on with focus to protect rights of children vulnerable to labour and Child Labour engaged in Agriculture . 93% of total child labourers are engaged in rural agricultural sector for long time; but they have been left from any sort of development initiatives
The present phase considers Education for Youth Employment – EYE as the main focus. Some activities of CDP have been revised in the light of EYE. :
The objectives of the project are to:
a) Develop alternative livelihood options & to make those accessible for child labourer and their parents
b) Develop Social safety net mechanism through mobilizing community ,care givers and duty bearers
c) Build Capacity of child labourer, parents, and community for getting organized, meaningful participation, social mobilization and claiming to fulfill their rights.
Direct Targeted beneficiaries:
• Child labour and children at risk of labour
• Middle class children
• Employers
• Community elites including parents
Project coverage during the reporting period:
The program covers 331 villages spread over 69 unions of 10 Upazilas in 5 districts viz Chandpur, Comilla, Kushtia, Pirojpur and Chittagong. The initiative has benefited about 45406 beneficiaries of which 14780 are children and 3851 adult.
