Remittance and Payments Partnerships (RPP)
RPP is conceptually somewhat an innovative development program. The goal of the project is to Promote pro-poor economic growth in order to increase the incomes and employment for the poor. The goal is in consonance with the Government of Bangladesh’s PRSP pillars and DFID Bangladesh’s Country Assessment Priority Area 1. The project is implemented in collaboration with DFID. The first focus is on improving the enabling environment for remittances, the second to improve remittance products, and third to improve information availability to migrants & willing to be migrants.
Duration & Coverage:
4 union of Patia upazila of Chittagong district and a four wards of Chittagong City Corporation with the duration from June 2007 to August 2010.
Objectives:
The RPP is destined to achieve the following major objectives:
• Improving the enabling environment for remittance through developing a natural strategy thereon.
• Utilizing remittance product / receipts in viable projects to encourage increasing flow of remittances.
• Establishing information system to make information available to the Migrants & other concerned.
Activities
• To establish Migration Rights Protection Committee- MRPC
• To liaise and effect support with local level BMET offices,Local level Bank,local journalists,UP,City Corporation, Passport Office & Dalal.
• To organize TOT and Bankers
• To implement 6 field training (3-day each) for MRPC in each working area
• To conduct awareness raising activities on migration issues such as rally, hatshava, uthan baithak, cultural programme etc. at the union level with the help of MRPC.
• To organize a pilot workshop for outgoing migrant workers with the help of RMMRU.
• To conduct weekly counseling for those who are willing to migrate.
• Organize bank fair.
