Strengthening Household Ability to Respond to Development Opportunities (SHOHARDO)

SHOUHARDO is implemented in 32 villages of Banshkhali upazila in Chittagong.So far implementation of the program has benefited 9017 household of which 1762 families are hardcore poor, 5206 families are poor, 1686 families are middle class and 363 families are relatively reach. The program is being implemented by UDDIPAN in Banshkhali upazila of Chittagong with the financial and technical assistance from CARE Bangladesh since 1st March 2006 and will end on 28th February 2010.

The prime objective of SHOUHARDO program is to improve Nutrition status of pregnant mothers, lactating mothers and children bellow24 months, Empowerment of women and adolescent girls through participation of community integrated activities, Disaster preparedness, Community action plan preparation. The major activities of this program are:
• Identification and selection of local leaders, local resource persons and elites.
• Orientation of Upazila administration, UP chairman and UP members on SHOUHARDO program.
• Linkage building of hardcore poor with local resources.
• Select ECD students and facilitators.
• Provide training to facilitators.
• Conduct health sessions with pregnant and lactating mothers.
• Provide training to different selected volunteers
• Provide nutrition education to mothers through awareness, growth monitoring and household advice..
• Provide Comprehensive Home Stead garden development training to volunteers
• Arrange food for pregnant women, lactating mothers and children (0-24 months).
• Select and trained disaster volunteers and distributes equipment.
• Resource and risk mapping by community.
• Prepared Bill Board and install.
• Organize rallies to observe important days and events.
• Improve livelihood
